Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and Ponder. We have tried to write them in plain language rather than in the usual wall of capital letters. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to what follows.

01Who you are dealing with

Ponder is operated by Thomas Gommeren, based in Belgium, acting as an individual. Where these terms say "we" or "us", that is who they mean. You can reach us at privacy@ponder.be.

02What Ponder is — and what it is not

Ponder asks you a few questions each morning and evening, and periodically an AI writes you a letter about patterns it notices in your answers.

It is a tool for reflection, nothing more. It is not a medical device, and nothing it produces is medical, psychological, therapeutic or professional advice. Do not use it to diagnose or treat anything, and do not let it delay you in seeking help. If you are struggling, please speak to a doctor or a qualified professional. In an emergency, contact your local emergency services.

03Your account

• You must be at least 16 years old to use Ponder.
• Give us an email address that is really yours, and keep your password to yourself.
• You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us if you think someone else has access to it.
• One account per person.

04What you write stays yours

Your check-ins, your intake answers and everything you type remain your content. You keep all rights to it.

To actually run the service, you give us permission to store that content and to process it — including sending it to our AI provider so your letters can be written. That permission exists for one purpose only: operating Ponder for you. We do not sell it, publish it, or use it to train AI models. It ends when you delete your account. Our Privacy Policy sets out the detail.

05About the letters

Your letters are written by a language model from the answers you give. That means they can be wrong, can miss things, and can occasionally say something that lands badly. Read them as a prompt for your own thinking, not as a verdict on you. We do not guarantee that any observation in a letter is accurate, and decisions you make after reading one remain yours.

06Using it fairly

Please do not:

• Break the law, or use Ponder to harm or harass anyone.
• Try to access other people's data, or poke at the service looking for weaknesses.
• Scrape the service, or run it through automated systems at scale.
• Resell or repackage Ponder as your own.

07Beta, availability and changes

Ponder is early software. Features will change, and some will disappear. We do not promise any particular uptime, and there may be interruptions for maintenance or for reasons outside our control. We do take your data seriously and keep backups, but you should not treat Ponder as the only copy of anything that matters to you — the app lets you export everything at any time from Settings → Download My Data.

08Paid plans

Ponder is currently free while in beta. If we introduce paid plans, any purchase inside the iOS app runs through Apple's in-app purchase system, and Apple's terms and refund process apply to that payment — refunds are requested from Apple, not from us. We will tell you the price and what you get before you pay anything, and existing free features will not be taken away from you without notice.

As a consumer in the EU you normally have a fourteen-day right of withdrawal on digital services. Where a subscription starts immediately at your request, that right may end once the service has been fully performed — we will make this explicit at the point of purchase.

09Ending it

You can stop at any time. Settings → Delete Account removes your account and the data in it; there is no notice period and nothing to cancel by email.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks section 06, or where we are legally required to. Except in serious cases, we will contact you first and give you a chance to put it right.

10Our responsibility

We provide Ponder with reasonable care and skill. Because it is early software offered as a reflection tool, we cannot promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that its observations will suit you.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost data where you had the ability to export it, or for decisions you take on the basis of a letter. Nothing here limits your statutory rights as a consumer, or our liability for death, personal injury, fraud, or anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

11Changes to these terms

We will update these terms as Ponder grows. The date at the top always reflects the current version. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and continuing to use Ponder after that means you accept it. If you do not, you can delete your account.

12Which law applies

Belgian law governs these terms. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country you live in, and you may bring proceedings in the courts there. The European Commission also runs an online dispute resolution platform for consumer disputes.
